Manna

Named by my brother Phil. Theses three paintings were inspired from a pattern in a rug. I had a request from the store for more black and white paintings, it seems to be a trend this season.
Each painting is 18x24 inches.

Ruby Bloom

Seasonally inspired...the colour that is. I love working with two tones, however this painting had so much fine detail it was nearly the end of me! It is 24x24 inches. And on a gallery canvas.

Apple delight

The top pic has the changes done in it. All Idid was rework the light glare. Below is before pics, taken in better lighting.

The second in my fruit series. Also on 8x8 canvas. I have always wanted to paint an apple and well, now I don't know if I care to ever again. This was so time consuming, way more detail than I ever gave an apple credit for. I still have a few finishing touches to do, but here they are!

Lemon zest

I had a tough time trying to get the lighting right for these photos, so I took two to give a better idea of the painting. This is the first in what will be a series of four fruit paintings. 8x8

Peace

Back into the swing of things finally. I started this painting a few months ago and haven't painted anything serious since. So it is now finished and I am happy. It actually brings some peace to be back at the 'isle' with a brush.

Not much to say, just wanted to paint something red. And this is what came out of it. They are small ones, about 10x12 inches each.

Daisy

This was one that perplexed me a little . I had painted a different painting under it and it was not what I had envisioned at all so this is what took it's place. It was painted to go with a particular furniture setting, you would have to see it all together to get the whole picture. 2x3 ft.

Summer breeze

Click to view larger image. It was too wide to take a close up. This one was inspired by the one I painted for Katie. The canvas had been kicking around for a few months and I couldn't decide what to paint on it, so many ideas, but nothing that I was dying to paint. But the dandelion was so fun I just had to do it again. 1x4 ft.

tropical duo

My photography is a little off but....theses are a pair to be sold together. Done in the wee hours of the morning while the kiddo were sleeping. A lot of fun to paint and I love the contrast of the back and white. Something I will experiment with a lot more! 16"x 20" each.

Blowing lion

This painting was so fun to paint and it turned out exactly how I wanted it to, which is usually a battle! I have missed painting over the last month and it feels sooooo good to be back at it! 12"x24".

Lady in waiting

I just found this one in the basement, it is an older one and something that I just came up with out of my head. I never finished it so it is what it is. If you zoom in on it you will notice that her face and the background are not complete. I actually like it black though, the contrast works.

Setting sun flower

Inspired by a photo of a flower. I loved the colors and boldness of it as well as the challenge it presented. It was labour intensive but a lot of fun, I felt like I almost developed a relationship with it, even fighting it with blending the paints together. In the end I fell that we ended it on a good note, both happy and exhausted.

Honeycomb

I like the mirror quality of this painting. It is also for the Urban-1 collection.(link on rt side bar) I am really having fun with tone on tone painting. This one was also inspired by a fabric swatch. 16"x20".

Dot, twig, dot.

Dave named these ones and his description says it all. The one thing is that I wish is that I hadn't applied the glaze finish till after photographing them, the flash was really bright. These are at Urban-1 as well. 8"x10" each.

Blossom

A simple flower.
I am loving doing this type of art, it works with my schedule. I can walk away when a babe needs me and come back and pick up where I left off....and know where I left off. When the paintings are more detailed it is a lot harder to leave and return. 10"x12".

White bloom

I haven't yet decided if this painting is finished. I don't know if I want to put a stem on it or a vase or just leave it. I like the simplicity of it the way it is. The flower and leaves are done in oil and give a certain vibrancy that I just cannot seem to get out of acrylic paints. 16"x20".

purple rock n' roll

I really wasn't sure about this one, the purple, the black...not like anything I've ever done before. However once in Urban-1 and placed in a purple and black room setting, it looks great. I should do a post on that, the whole complimentary thing between the art and furniture really works. 16"x20".

Swirl

These are the first two paintings in my new collection designed for urban-1 furniture + decor. The store is filled with contemporary European inspired, clean lined furniture. It is very fresh and modern! I am now working on a line of paintings that will have that same simple feel and the goal is to have the furniture and art work together in a complimentary way. As the paintings come together I will post them. 10"x12" each.

This was my first attempt at painting a flower up close, tone on tone. It was surprising how many colours I actually ended up using. This is one of my favourites, I think because I find it relaxing and romantic. 16"x20".

Salvaged art

This painting was done on a selvaged canvas. I found it in the stairwell of our old apartment building downtown Edmonton, and it had a horrible print of a pyramid and an eye ball on it. I simply primed and painted over it with an idea I has swirling around in my mind.

Daves C-liner

Dave loves paintings of trains.
So for his birthday in 2003 I painted this 4056 C-liner for him.
It is from a photograph on a post card taken in 1968 at Thrums, B.C. Canada.

Inspiration

The peppers above my stove.
I love peppers, and the colors in that they turn as they ripen. I painted these a few years ago to add a touch of color to my kitchen. I got tired of looking at the blank wall and these inspire me while I cook.

And so I begin...

And so I begin the story of my art.
This will at best be random since I don't get much of a chance to paint anymore.
I love to paint, I find it incredibly relaxing, an escape, a release...
It's like I get all this creativity bottled up and ideas swirl nonstop in my mind, once it's out and splashed on a canvas I feel free and relaxed.
Lately I have only managed a bunch of scrawls on scraps of paper, but it is something...I can let that idea go until I get the chance to dip a brush.

So as they come I will share them....enjoy!

Anna McLean

I am an artist.

If you click through the links above they are sorted into galleries.

I do not tie myself to any group or style.
I believe that art is an expression and should be let live freely.
Whatever comes to mind or whatever I feel I paint. Some paintings are personal and will never make it here but those that I share are what make it out.

To the left you will see archives. As I create pieces I post them here in running order. However in the galleries above they are sorted by style.
